Exploring Faith

What do you want most in life? Whether we realize it or not, we are all looking for good things in life—family, success, wealth, health and more. Exploring Faith is a 3 week course that City on a Hill Brighton offers to help people discover the good news, the best news, of the gospel in the life of Jesus. Participants will spend each week looking at different aspects of Jesus’ life and different foundations of the Christian faith. It is designed for those who are skeptical of Christianity, aren’t sure what they believe, or those seeking to learn more about Jesus and the Christian faith.

This course is designed for those who do not consider themselves Christians or religious, however, it will still prove beneficial among followers of Christ. Exploring Faith is a relaxed and informal way of sharing the best news you can ever hear, and gives people space and time to think about the big questions of life. The structure of each session is simple: a short Bible study, a talk, and a discussion based on the talk. This is a great opportunity to invite friends, co-workers, classmates & neighbors. Also, there is a free meal provided at each meeting! We will have two separate groups, one for teenagers and adults, and another group for kids ages 3 months through 5th grade.

Exploring Faith will meet every Tuesday night from 6-8 pm from November 5 until November 19. Exploring Christianity will meet in the community room at 35 Fidelis Way Boston MA 02135. To sign up, fill out the form below. If you do not sign up, you are still welcome to attend! For more information, please email Kyle Tucker at kyletucker@coahchurch.org.

About the Speaker

This year, we are so excited to have Pastor and Author John Starke with us at our retreat. John is the Lead Pastor at Apostles Church Uptown in New York City. He’s deeply committed to helping people develop meaningful and transformative relationships with Jesus, particularly in the midst of city life’s complexities.

John recently released a new book titled “The Secret Place of Thunder: Trading Our Need to Be Noticed for a Hidden Life with Christ.” In this thoughtful work, he explores the profound spiritual truth that real strength and peace come from a deep, hidden life with Christ.

His work focuses on contemplative spirituality, authentic community, and the transformative power of the Gospel. John’s approach to teaching is both insightful and relatable. He has a way of drawing people into deeper reflection and growth. We will be truly blessed to have him with us, and that what he has to share will encourage us to develop even deeper relationships with Jesus.

CoaH Co-Ed Softball

Thank you for your interest in playing softball with City on a Hill this season! We play in the Boston Metro Church Softball League, a co-ed slow-pitch league with players of all skill levels. The season runs from mid June through early September. Games are on Saturdays at 9am, 11am or 1pm and typically last 90 minutes or less. Game locations include Roberto Clemente fields in Fenway, Healy Field in Roslindale, Boston Common and potentially another location in West Roxbury.

Last year we fielded 2 CoaH teams, Green (Cannonballs - Brookline & Forest Hills) and Blue (Cobras - Brighton & Somerville) between the 4 network churches. We are using this interest form to gauge interest and numbers to determine if we have enough players to form two teams again.

League fees are usually $40-50 plus an extra cost for a team jersey, if you don't already have one.
Whether you're new to City on a Hill or a long time member, you're more than welcome to join in the fun and fellowship.

CoaH Course: Practicing the Way

to Jun 2

CoaH Course: Practicing the Way

The Practicing the Way Course is an introduction to spiritual formation. This course features eight sessions of teaching, guided conversation, and spiritual exercises designed to lay a foundation for lifelong apprenticeship to Jesus. The course will also be paired with readings from Habits of Grace by David Mathis.

Over eight sessions, you’ll form a foundational understanding of intentional spiritual formation. You will learn about the practices of spiritual formation including Bible reading, Sabbath, prayer, and more. Together, we’ll explore how to follow Jesus in our busy, distracted, and increasingly secular culture.

We will meet every Sunday from April 14 to June 2. We will meet from 4-6 pm at the church office at 1660 Soldiers Field Rd, Brighton, MA 02135. This church office is part of Staples Studio, which is located in the back of the Staples building. If you walk through the main doors and walk straight to the back, you’ll see it! Also, dinner and childcare will not be provided (although parents and kids are welcome!). Also, there will be plenty of free parking available at the church office.

We will generally follow the weekly outline below, although this outline may change as we continue through the course:

April 14 — Following Jesus

April 21 — Formation (Part 1)

April 28 — Formation (Part 2)

May 5 — The Practices

May 12 — Meeting God in Pain and Suffering

May 19 — Healing from Sin

May 26 — Crafting a Rule of Life

June 2 — Life Together

Singleness, Marriage, & Sexuality: How God's Design Points Us to Jesus' Unending Love

In a world that idolizes sex and celebrates a wide range of romantic bonds, Christians can feel conflicted and confused.

Are the Bible's boundaries around sex outdated? Is it cruel to deny someone who's attracted to their same sex sexual and romantic fulfilment? Is faithful singleness viable, or just a recipe for loneliness? Why has my marriage failed to make my dreams come true?

In this one-day conference, speakers with a range of attractions, life stories, and expertise unite around the Bible's vision for both singleness and marriage as living signposts to the gospel truth of Jesus's unending love for us. Whatever your life situation, we'd love for you to bring your hopes, dreams, friends, and questions and join the conversation on November 11!

Exploring Christianity

What do you want most in life? Whether we realize it or not, we are all looking for good things in life—family, success, wealth, health and more. Exploring Christianity is a 6 week course that City on a Hill Brighton offers to help people discover the good news, the best news, of the gospel in the life of Jesus.

Exploring Christianity is a relaxed and informal way of sharing the best news you can ever hear, and gives people space and time to think about the big questions of life. The structure of each session is simple: a short Bible study, a talk, and a discussion based on the talk. This is a great opportunity to invite friends, co-workers, classmates & neighbors. Also, there is a free meal provided at each meeting!

Exploring Christianity will meet every Sunday night from 6-8 pm from October 8 until November 19. However, there will be no meeting on October 22 due to City on a Hill’s Fall Retreat (if you want to join our Fall Retreat, you can sign up on our website!). Exploring Christianity will meet in the Alllston Brighton Community Room at the Presentation School at 640 Washington St, Brighton, MA 02135. To sign up, fill out the form below. For more information, please email Kyle Tucker at kyletucker@coahchurch.org.

The Big Move 2023

The Big Move 2023

Every year on September 1 our church participates in what we call "The Big Move". The Big Move is when thousands of people move into our area because of the approximately 80% of apartments in Boston on a September 1 lease renewal date.

With The Big Move coming up, we want to serve our neighborhood and those moving into it! CoaH Brighton would like to help our community during The Big Move by having a few teams to help those around us.

We understand that The Big Move falls at the end of a work week (on a Friday), however, we'd love to have many in our church serve this year! We realize this may mean taking a day off of work to serve. Would you consider asking for volunteer time from your workplace in order to help in The Big Move this year?

Those serving will be supplied with free CoaH water bottles (including church information inside) as a gift to pass out to those our teams connect with/help move. Click the button below to contact Kyle and be placed with a team as well as be provided with any necessary training and supplies for your team!
